Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist

About Dr Stephanie Barrett

Dr Stephanie Barrett is a leading consultant in rheumatology, with extensive experience in treating a wide range of rheumatological conditions. As Medical Director of The London Rheumatology Centre and consultant at The London Clinic, she provides highly personalised care to patients. Dr Barrett is at the forefront of innovative treatment approaches, particularly in the use of repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) and Peripheral Magnetic Stimulation (PMS) to effectively manage chronic pain syndromes, including conditions like fibromyalgia. These non-invasive treatments offer new hope to patients who have not responded to traditional therapies.

Her career includes holding the lead consultant post at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for eight years, where she established specialist clinics for osteoporosis and early/complex inflammatory arthritis. She also pioneered treatments such as biological therapies for arthritis. Dr Barrett’s research, including her MD thesis, focused on systemic sclerosis and its impact on the small intestine, providing critical insights into early vasculopathy.

Dr Barrett has played a significant role in education, including organising global webinars on autoimmune and inflammatory diseases during the Covid-19 pandemic. Her work extends internationally, collaborating with fellow consultants and educational bodies like the Royal College of Physicians.

Dr Barrett is an extremely kind and compassionate clinician, not only with a wealth of knowledge in her field but also a complete understanding of the impact your condition can have on your whole life.
